Religion of Himachal Pradesh | A famous and well known runs like this :

Once king Daksha performed 'Yagya   - a religious activity. But he didn't invite his son-in-law Shiva. Annoyed thus Sati, daughter of Daksha and first consort of Shiva, went straight to her father and asked why he  hadn't  invited Shiva. Her father insulted her husband talking rubbish and calling His names. Listening to these indignities, Sati couldn't control over her temper and simply jumped into the holy fire of Yagya and burnt herself alive. Lord Shiva got annoyed and took corpse of Sati out of fire. Placing corpse on His shoulders, He started his Tandava - a dance form believed to be performed by Almighty Shiva. All in the universe including  deities got scared by His Tandava. They got together and went to Vishanu - The Protector - to seek His help. Accepting their prayers, Vishanu unleashed His 'Sudarshana'' - round ring bore on finger - to cut corpse of Sati into pieces. Thus 51 pieces of Durga Sati fell on different places of the land and known as 'Shaktipeeths'  Naina Devi is one of them. This is place where 'Nayan' - eyes  -  of Durga Sati had fallen. Thus become the name  Naina Devi.

According to another legend  Mahisasur was very powerful demon. He had got a boon of immortality from Brahamma - creator of the universe. No one could have defeated him except an unmarried girl. The demon started spreading terror among people as well as gods . All were very scared of him.  To cope with Mahisasur , all gods got together and contributed their power to create goddess and gave her different weapons. Demon was bewitched by the beauty of goddess and  wished to marry her. The girl laid a condition to overcome her first in a battle . Only after that she would marry him. The battle took place and goddess defeated the demon and took out his eyes and threw them away from this place. This caused the name of  Naina Devi.
