Aunt Jennifer's Tigers

Aunt Jennifer's Tigers|  Explanation in Hindi

Aunt Jennifer's Tigers

Tiger

By Adrienne Rich
CBSE NCERT CLASS XII ENGLISH Poem

In this poem Adrienne Rich has illustrated her feminist concern. In a male dominated society, a woman of her time was only supposed to be  a dutiful homemaker. Through the world of Aunt Jennifer, this poem tells us about her desire to free herself from the clutches of abusive marriage and patriarchal society.
-------------------------------------------------------
1. Aunt Jennifer's tigers prance
across a screen,
Bright topaz denizens of a
world of green
They do not fear the men
beneath the tree;
They pace in sleek chivalric
certainty.

Explanation:
In this poem someone is a speaker whose aunt named Aunt Jennifer has been described here. It is  supposed that speaker is a lady or even a child. Aunt is embroidering Tigers which are prancing on tapestry. They seem walking with heavy and certain steps. They are yellow and bright like Cristal. They live in green and dense forest. They are not afraid of men under the tree. Meaning that men are just men for them, nothing to worry. They walk with sleek, chivalric and definite steps.
A Roadside Stand In Hindi | (हिंदी)
A Thing Of Beauty | Summary In Hindi
2. Aunt Jennifer's finger fluttering
through her wool
Find even the ivory needle hard
to pull
The massive weight of Uncle's
wedding band
Sits heavily upon Aunt
Jennifer's hand
Explanation:
In this stenza we know that Aunt Jennifer is afraid of something. Though it is not clear, she is afraid of her husband. Her fingers are trembling with fear it seems. Perhaps Uncle is a dominating person who doesn't care about her. This indicates that she has not a happy married life. She is unsatisfied with their relationship. Her fingers are unable to pull even the needle it seems. Uncle's (her husband) dominating nature has become a burden in their marriage. Their bond of marriage is just like a band which is very hard to carry on like this.
Keeping Quiet : Keeping Quiet Summary In Hindi

3. When Aunt is dead, her terrified
hands will lie
Still ringed with ordeals she
was mastered by
The tigers in the panel that she
made
Will go on prancing, proud and
unafraid.

Explanation:
In the last stenza, speaker imagined something very hard.  When Aunt Jennifer  will be dead, her terrified hands will lie still. Even after death, her hands will be surrounded by the work her husband ordered her throughout life. Their relationship is like that of  master and slave where uncle is master and aunt is slave. After her death, Tigers she has made on the panel will continue walking proudly and without any fear. Thus aunt will die one day but her work of art will remain for ever.
In short, aunt has made Tigers on a screen which are opposite to her own character. Perhaps she reflects her own desire to live like these tigers which she couldn't. May she wants to show the dominating nature of her husband who dominated her.
My Mother At Sixty Six Summary In Hindi

A Roadside Stand in Hindi | (हिंदी)

A Roadside Stand | in Hindi (हिंदी)

Robert Frost
Class 10+2 CBSE Poem
A Roadside Stand in Hindi
Roadside stand

1.The little old house was out with a little new shed
In front at the edge of the road where the traffic sped,
A roadside stand that too pathetically pled,
I would not be fair to say for a dole of bread,
But for some of the money, the cash, whose flow supports
The flower of cities from sinking and withering faint.

A Roadside Roadside Stand  in Hindi | (हिंदी)

Explanation:

Frost has drawn a vivid picture of farmers. Farmers have built a new shed outside a small old house  alongside the road. These farmers plea the  city people traveling in their speeding cars to stop. Yet, they are not asking for  alms or charity. They only want to get some cash which has made  the life of city people easy. Thus they want to lift their own life.

  • Out with.  –  (  बढाया हुआ) Extended
  • Traffic –(गाड़ियां जो सड़क पर गुजर रही है) Vehicles
  • Sped – (तेज़ गति से ) Passed in great haste and speed
  • Roadside stand –(शेड ) a little shed
  • Dole   - (भीख में मांगना)  Piece, City money: Big amount of money

2.The polished traffic passed with a mind ahead,
Or if ever aside a moment, then out of sorts
At having the landscape marred with the artless paint
Of signs what N turned wrong and S turned wrong
Offered for sale wild berries in wooden quarts,
Or crook-necked golden squash with silver warts.
Or beauty rest in a beautiful mountain scene,
You have the money, but if you want to be mean,
Why keep your money (this crossly) and go along.

A Roadside Stand in Hindi

Explanation:

People sitting in polished cars go on without taking notice of the roadside stand. If ever they turn their head to see the stand , only to complain that they have ruined the landscape by making signs of North and South artlessly.
An Elementary School Classroom In A Slum ( हिंदी)
They don't see that they have put some berries and golden squashes in wooden baskets. These bent necked squashes show that they are not of good quality.

Feel in hand - (वास्तव में ) The poor people do not want promises. They want the promises fulfilled.

Being: Life – Expand:    (सुधार)  Improve

Crossly – ( नाराजगी से ) Angrily

They had none –  They had no gas to sell

My Mother At Sixty Six Summary In Hindi
3. The hurt to the scenery wouldn't be my complaint
So much as the trusting sorrow of what is unsaid:
Here far from the city we make our roadside stand
And ask for some city money to feel in hand
To try if it will not make our being expand
And give us the life of the moving-pictures' promise
That the party in power is said to be keeping from us.
that way.

A Roadside Stand  in Hindi | (हिंदी)

Explanation:
Poet here points out that damage to the scenic beauty is not his complaint. His grief is that the promises made to these farmers have never kept. They have made a stand very far from city and want to get some money. This money can improve their life. This money can give them life standard as promised in movies . It is said that the party in power is not providing that type of facilities.

4. It is in the news that all these pitiful kin
Are to be bought out and mercifully gathered in
To live in villages, next to the theatre and the store.
Where they won't have to think for themselves anymore.
While greedy good-doers, beneficent beasts of prey,
Swarm over their lives enforcing benefits
That are calculated to soothe them out of their wits,
And by teaching them how to sleep they sleep all day,
Destroy their sleep at night the ancient way.

Explanation:

This is in news that these poor people will be moved mercifully to the villages next to theatre and market . They need not to worry for anything there. Some  greedy will try to get advantage of their lives. They will befool these innocent and ignorant people. They will do everything to exploit them and to make their lives miserable again. They will be taught to sleep all the day as they have no work to do. Thus their night's sleep will be destroyed also.

5. Sometimes I feel myself I can hardly bear
The thought of so much childish longing in vain,
The sadness that lurks near the open window there,
That waits all day in almost open prayer
For the squeal of brakes, the sound of a stopping car,
Of all the thousand selfish cars that pass,
Just one to inquire what a farmer's prices are.
And one did stop, but only to plow up grass
In using the yard to back and turn around;
And another to ask the way to where it was bound;
And another to ask could they sell it a gallon of gas
They couldn't (this crossly); they had none, didn't it see?

Tourist Places In India | Naina Devi Temple

Explanation:

Farmers keep waiting in vain all the day to stop a car. Poet says it is unbearable to see the plight of these farmers. They desire that a car stop there to ask the price of their produce. Though their longing is childish it seems as no-one stops their. They keep window open all the day and wait in vain with their sad faces. They pray that sound of stopping car should be heard out of thousands of cars that pass through  all the day and enquire the prices of their products. After all one car stops only  to use the yard of the stand to turn around and plow grass up doing so. Another stops to enquire where this road leads to. Another stops to ask if they can sell gasoline to them. At this, they become angry and say they can't. They say if city people want to keep their money with them then do so and go ahead.

6. No, in country money, the country scale of gain,
The requisite lift of spirit has never been found,
Or so the voice of the country seems to complain.

Explanation:

These are very deprived people. Their lives can't improve by giving them some money. Country's progress doesn't help them to lift up their lives. They are not encouraged to keep their spirits high. This is not the problem of only these farmers. The country seems complaining in the same voice.
The voice of the country –  ( ग्रामीण लोगों का दुःख) Cry of the poor villagers

I can’t help owning the great relief it would be –  ( अवास्तविक राहत महसूस करना)   I keep on feeling an unreal relief of the villagers

At one stroke – (तुरंत , एक ही बार मे) Instantly

6. I can't help owning the great relief it would be
To put these people at one stroke out of their pain.
And then next day as I come back into the sane
I wonder how should like you to come to me
And offer to put me greatly out of my pain.

Explanation:

Poet personally feels that he would be very relieved if some put these farmers out of pain at one stroke. When poet would return to these farmers next day, they offer help to the poet. This would be very helpful to get out of pain caused by the plight of farmers. Meaning that poet would be very happy with this.

As I come back into the sane – ( जब में होश में आऊं)  As I come back to my senses/reality

My pain –( किसानों की पीड़ा) My pain is the sufferings/plight of the poor people

Put me out of my pain –  (किसानों के दुखों काA दूर होना) I hope you the rich promise to open your hands for these poor people
