3. She remembers the lovely face and  the changed face of her mother altogether. She also remembers the laughter of her mother.

4. She feels  very sad and  lonely  without her mother. Her mother has already died long ago.

5. The post tries  to say  that her mother has died about twelve years ago. This was the age of her mother when this taken.

6. The death of poet's mother is a big blow to her. She is too shocked to say anything. She cannot express her grief in words.

Ans. The first phase refers to the time when the poet's mother was just twelve. She used to go to sea beach with her uncle and her cousins. They paddled the sea beach and enjoy their holidays. The second phase refers to the time when the poet lives with her mother. The mother was then in her thirties or forties. She remembers her childhood and get amused . She completely loses in her childhood memories and happily tells her daughter ( poet) about vacation and stories related to it .  The third phase refers to the time when poet is lonely and sad. The mother is  already dead. She is now all alone. She has no one to talk to . The poet cannot even express her grief to anyone. She has suffered a great loss. She remains silent now .

Ans. The word 'cardboard' has been used for the mother's photograph . Perhaps it  is pasted on a  cardboard .  It is just like a cardboard now because the mother is already dead.

Ans : The camera has captured three little girls. One of them is the poet's mother. Other  two are the mother's girl cousins. Each of them is holding one hand
of the mother. The mother was then just a girl of twelve. . They are standing in shallow water. They are smiling through their flying hair.

Ans. : The sea  has not changed over the years. The girls have changed completely who once paddled  on its beach. It suggests that while human life is  transient, but the nature  always remained the same.

Indicates?

Ans : Mother's laughter shows that the mother had a happy childhood. She feels  happy  remembering her childhood and beach holiday.

Q. What is the meaning of the line : 'Both wry with the laboured ease of loss' ?

Ans. :  The poet here brings out a similarity between the face of her mother and own face. Both the faces had turned wry due to the intense feeling of great loss The mother had lost the joys of her childhood. The poet had lost the
laughter of her mother who was now dead. So faces have lost their charm due to loss. There was despair which prevailed on the faces.

Q. What does 'this circumstances' refer to ?

Ans. :  Poet has lost her mother . She is very sad and lonely. She misses her mother so much. She remembers her mother's laughter. All this shows  present mental state of her.  This is circumstances  is referred to here in these lines.
